SUICIDE ASSESSMENT & INTERVENTION: Working with Adults and Youth
AN AUDIOTAPE TRAINING
Learn what psychiatric
treatment providers need to know to assess risk and improve care
-
As the 11th leading cause of death
in the United States, suicide is a major public health threat.
-
Current data indicates that suicidality is the most common mental health emergency
presentation, and mental health professionals are increasingly at
risk for malpractice litigation should a suicide occur.
-
Suicide is the leading type of reported sentinel event, according to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Staff members in behavioral health treatment programs are on the front
line for assessing lethality potential. Yet many clinicians have considerable fears and
anxieties related to working with suicidal individuals. Organizational policies also may
not take full advantage of opportunities to support their staffs clinical efforts. To help focus attention on ways
of improving clinical care, the
National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems has organized a specialized telephone
conference call exclusively to help staff
within treatment settings better recognize suicidal symptoms and intervene with suicidal
patients. Use this two-hour audiotape training to identify smart
questions to ask as you review your internal policies and procedures.
