In commemoration of the one-year anniversary of September 11, 2001, and in support of all Americans affected by the tragedies, behavioral healthcare providers around the nation are delivering vital outreach, education, and treatment services.

The following listings (which will be continuously updated) may be helpful to provider organizations wishing to network with colleagues or to community members interested in resources available in their communities. We encourage our members to update listings by sending information to comm@naphs.org.

National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems

Caritas Peace Center, Louisville, KY

The chaplaincy department at CARITAS Peace Center will send suggestions to the units and program staff on ways to address 9/11 issues that come up in group psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and individual therapy. They will also suggest activities they can do on the units. The facility’s clinical mail function (known as "Chart Expert") will also distribute information about things to do for 9/11 for all staff.

Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA

A variety of anniversary events have been scheduled. There will be a Medical Center-wide "One Year Anniversary Remembrance: Celebrating the Resilience of the Human Spirit" for all hospital staff, volunteers, physicians, faculty, residents, and fellows on 9/11/02. The Department of Psychiatry at all staff meetings will have a rabbi to open meetings with a remembrance prayer. In addition, there will be a one-week-long public art presentation (911: One Year Later) by the children served by the Psychological Trauma Center. A book is also being prepared for the public to address concerns about a variety of issues, including: anniversary reactions; dealing with children’s anniversary reactions; dealing with feelings; grieving process; children’s anxiety; parents and teachers actions while in the presence of children; coping with stress; and when to seek outside help.

Glen Oaks Hospital, Greenville, TX

As part of a Community Disaster Plan, key staff from Glen Oaks Hospital serve on that team. They have purchased 9/11 "We Will Never Forget" lollipops to show support for the community and those who use their services year-round.

The Holliswood Hospital, Holliswood, NY

On September 20, the Holliswood Hospital will host a conference entitled "One Year Later, One Year Stronger: A Time for Healing and Hope." The 9:30am-11:30am event features Jeffrey Borenstein, M.D., CEO/Medical Director; Julie Hernandez, BA, CASAC, of Liberty Management Group; and George Lynch, BA, MS, Director, EAP Services. Manatee Palms Youth Services, Bradenton, FL

Manatee Palms Youth Services (a 60-bed psychiatric residential hospital that is part of Ramsay Youth Services, Inc.) is conducting a hospital-wide Annual Training Fair September 11 through September 13 - focusing a special training booth with a Tribute to 9-11. They will be educating their staff on various mental health issues, including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and related coping skills for patients, staff, and families. They will also use this time to educate staff on community disaster preparedness plans, etc.

Silver Hill Hospital, New Canaan, CT

Silver Hill Hospital is commemorating the anniversary of September 11 by providing a memorial service for Silver Hill staff and patients.
